Spring forward, industry activities, and shoulder surgery – it’s been an interesting March so far!

Iowa spring is doing what it does best this year—keeping us on our toes. We’ve bounced from 75 degrees down to 25, with plenty of wind, snow, and rain mixed in. With less than 10 days until the Vernal Equinox, I’m crossing my fingers that warmer temps are here to stay and the snow is finally behind us.
Things have been just as eventful on my end. Spending a week in the warm waters of the Bahamas was a great way to recharge, and as always, it was a blast catching up with friends across the industry.
As many of you know, I also had a torn rotator cuff and recently went in for surgery. I had the procedure done during the second week of March and I’m officially on the road to recovery. The biggest challenge right now? I can’t drive! I’m very much a one-armed bandit at the moment, but I’m getting around better than I expected—even with my right arm locked down.

We’ll learn more next week when we meet with the surgeon and go over how everything went, but I’m feeling optimistic. I’ve got a great care team, and my wife Kris has been amazing through all of this.
With that said, I’ve got a bit of extra time on my hands, so don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything I can help with or just to chat. And keep an eye out—we’re kicking off a new solid waste industry podcast in the coming weeks, with a fantastic lineup of guests ready to share their stories and the story of the solid waste industry.
Until next time, be well and please keep in touch.
